The NCTC board is planning some exciting changes for 2010-11 that will be of interest to you. Look for more details over the summer and in the fall, but here is a sneak-peak:
Big changes to the Unified College/University Auditions and Interviews - plans are underway to rename this event and to include ALL high school students. We plan to offer many new things including audition preparation workshops (for underclassmen), sessions on careers in theatre (other than acting), sessions for parents, design/tech special activities, a session on the differences between BA, BFA, Majors, Minors, Private and Public colleges, and more! Save the date:
November 20, 2010 at Greensboro College.High School and Middle School Play FestivalsA task force of NCTC board members, educators and adjudicators are hard at work on a major revision to the festival feedback sheet. We are still in the process of choosing a format, but look for an exciting change--that many of you have been requesting. The new form will allow for more written feedback from the adjudicators, provide a rubric for clarity, and simplify the scoring system. Schools will still receive ratings and verbal adjudication, and the awards will not change. This is an addition to feedback, not a reduction and we look forward to introducing this new form to you, as soon as it is ready. If you have suggestions about the feedback sheet, please email NCTC Executive Director Angie Hays (angelahays@nctc.org) and she will share your ideas with the task force.
Please note that festival fees will increase in 2010-11. The board is committed to keeping costs as low as possible, but with increasing expenses, we have determined that an increase is necessary. Fees for the High School Play Festival will be $125 per show (a school may enter two shows) and $10 per student. Middle School fees will be $125 per show (a school may enter two shows) and $8 per student.
As you know, the HSPF registration process is quite competitive. We anticipate a record number of participants in 2010 and will make minor changes to the registration process, in order to accommodate as many schools as possible. We will still process registrations on a first come, first served basis, but will ask you to rank your site preferences (top three). Please try to plan for either weekend of the festival, plan to attend both days of the festival, and know that you may be limited to one show if sites fill up quickly. While we cannot reserve any slots, we will do our best to offer registration to all schools that want to participate. We just ask that you be as flexible as you can and we will do our best to accommodate your requests. We plan to open festival registration on or around September 1.
