Constance Welsh Graduate Studies Scholarship

 

NCTC is accepting applications for the Constance Welsh Scholarship, which supports a student studying Theatre for Youth or Theatre Arts Education at the graduate level.

The scholarship is an unrestricted, one-time award of $3,000. Applications must be received by April 2. Click here for guidelines and the application or email Amanda Clark with any questions.

NCTC 2010-2011 Annual Report - William Rackley Undergraduate Theatre Scholarship

I am so thankful to have been chosen to receive the William Rackley Undergraduate Theatre Scholarship! I attended William G. Enloe High School, a magnet school for the arts - a place where I was allowed to explore my passion, eventually realizing that I could not imagine a future for myself that did not include theatre.

The arts mean so much to me, and I am thankful that NCTC recognizes the importance of the arts as a part of public education. This scholarship means a lot to me because not only does it signify the importance of the arts, but it will also allow me to pursue my dreams of eventually studying drama and expressive arts therapies in graduate school, and travelling abroad to share these skills with less-privileged individuals and communities. Thank you to NCTC and the scholarship committee for this honor, and thank you to everyone in the community who supports the arts!

William Rackley Undergraduate Theatre Scholarship - Deadline March 15, 2011

The deadline for the William Rackley Undergraduate Theatre Scholarship is quickly approaching!

The deadline to apply is March 15, 2011.

This scholarship was established by NCTC to support undergraduate study in the field of drama or theatre. Up to $3,000 will be awarded, and more than one recipient may be chosen.


You are eligible to apply if you are:

    * a rising college junior or senior (for the 2011-12 academic year)
    * a graduate of a North Carolina high school
    * enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university in North Carolina
    * majoring in drama/theatre

Ten Reasons to Give - Reason #2

NCTC needs your support!

The NCTC Board has a goal of raising $2010 by the end of the year. Gifts of $10, $20 or more will help to grow our scholarship fund and support our mission.

Over the next few weeks we will post Ten Reasons to give a 2010 Gift to NCTC!

Reason #2:

We support arts education!

Not only do we advocate for public education policy, but our Constance Welsh Scholarship Fund supports theatre arts educators.

The NCTC scholarship programs award two scholarships in alternating years. This year, the Constance Welsh Memorial Scholarship was presented to Judy Osborne. Judy is a Theatre Arts Educator at Union Pines High School and has been inspiring students for 20 years. We are happy to be able to provide some support during her final year of graduate study.

The scholarship is named after Constance Welsh, the founder of the Taradiddle Players and Davidson Community Players, and is presented to a graduate student in the field of Theatre Education.

I am so honored to be awarded the Welsh scholarship.  I registered for my summer classes today and for the first time, I did not have to worry about where the money will come from! Both my son and daughter are full-time college students, and with me in graduate school, our budget is very tight.  As I registered for classes I was a bit overwhelmed with gratitude to NCTC.

NCTC has done so much to further the cause of theatre education in this state that it seems I should be supporting NCTC and not the other way around.

We are spotlighting the NCTC 2009-2010 Annual Report over the next few weeks. In this post we cover NCTC scholarships.
