Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina, is the largest professional producing theater in North Carolina. The theater has a sixty-year history of artistic achievement and is now seeking an Associate Artistic Director to take a leading role in furthering the organizations artistic goals.
Job responsibilities include: directing mainstage and second stage productions, managing the theater's recently launched New Works Initiative, season planning, oversight of visiting artists, New York and local casting, interfacing with the Apprentice Director and YouTheatre Artistic Director, managing the artistic associate and artistic interns, and supporting the artistic vision of the Producing Artistic Director.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished Director or Director/Choreographer of musicals and plays, with experience in new work development. He/she must possess a collaborative spirit, a commitment to developing work that emotionally engages an audience, and a desire to be a part of a wonderful community in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, 30 minutes from Asheville.
